A bit of background to what makes a great design culture for any business

Ben Schofield & Cambridge UX
Cambridge UX came about from my 25 plus years in the field. As a brand it allowed me to manage consultancy work, perform research, lead workshops and speak at events and summits.

I have had the privilege to be involved with some great UX projects and teams. At the core of all this work are the users and the interpretation of their needs into award winning projects.
Teams and Culture
At the core of every good product is a great team a culture to grow that team and the tools and methods that allow them to excel. It is something I always look to cultivate.

The quote “Culture eats strategy for breakfast” from legendary management consultant and writer Peter Drucker, is important to me. To be clear he didn't mean that strategy was unimportant – rather that a powerful and empowering culture was a surer route to organisational success.

The enablement of people and the ability to listen and bring out the best in a group is what will drive their creativity.

Creativity
As an artist I understand the process to create something special that people grow to love and appreciate. I look to take teams offsite to discuss the creative process and set their own principals around design thinking.
Often this will be galleries or museums but most recently we have visited Google's Accessibility Discovery Centre for inspiration. The idea is to bring in groups around us so they can also build an understanding of what we do and the means and methods to create something special.
On a personal level I have been linked up with Cambridge Open Studios and Makespace to pursue new creative avenues.
Recording and Learning
I have maintained an ability to record and edit user interactions. A lot of my interviews are filmed and edited down to snapshots of what users are talking about.
The ability to record and capture what is important means reading between the lines and talking in a way that doesn't lead. I look to clarify what a group is dealing within in their every day lives so opportunities and solutions can be found.
